Does that figure include super?
The guarantee is 12%. On the same headline number, a package with super inside it pays less cash than a salary with super on top, which is why ads that do not say are worth querying.

Study loan repayments are not deducted. If you have a HECS or HELP debt, expect a further deduction once your income passes the repayment threshold. Everything else here is complete: Australian states do not charge income tax.
What this assumes
- HELP, HECS and other study loan repayments are not deducted. If you have one, expect a further deduction once your income passes the repayment threshold.
- 2026-27 resident rates, the first year the second bracket is 15% rather than 16%. Working holiday makers and foreign residents are taxed on a different scale, with no tax-free threshold.
- Single-person Medicare levy thresholds: nothing below $28,011, phasing in at 10c in the dollar to $35,013, then a flat 2%. Families and seniors have higher thresholds that this does not model.
- The Medicare levy surcharge is not applied. High earners without private hospital cover pay a further 1% to 1.5%.
- Superannuation is shown separately because your employer pays it into your fund; it never reaches your bank account. It is capped at the maximum contribution base of $270,830, above which no further super is owed.
- No tax offsets are applied, including the low income tax offset, which can reduce tax at the bottom of the scale.
- A full financial year at this salary. Starting or leaving part way through changes the result, since the tax-free threshold is annual rather than pro-rated by your employer.
- Salary income only. No investment income, capital gains, or business income.
An estimate for comparing offers, not tax advice. Offsets and the Medicare levy surcharge can move the figure.
