School type is the single largest determinant of teacher salary in India:
- Government schools (KVS/NVS/State government): ₹5–14 LPA including grade pay, DA, and allowances. Best job security and pension. KVS PGT teachers earn ₹9–12 LPA effective. State government school salaries vary dramatically. Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu pay more than UP or Bihar.
