Social media manager

Social media manager resume example

One page. Reverse chronological, no columns, no photo. Follower counts are the vanity metric of this field; a hiring manager wants the number that touched revenue, and the ones who ask first are the ones worth working for.

The top of a social media manager resume: contact details, a two-line summary, and the first role with two quantified achievements.

The bullets and skills are this page's own. The name, employer and dates are invented.

Most social media manager resumes fail before a human ever reads them, they get filtered out by Applicant Tracking Systems before reaching a recruiter's desk. This guide covers exactly what ATS systems scan for in social media manager roles, how to write bullet points that get callbacks, and which keywords you must include. Every example on this page is fictionalized, recruiter-informed, and written to show the level of specificity strong social media manager candidates need.

Must-have skills for a social media manager resume

These are the keywords ATS systems scan for in social media manager job postings. Include every skill you genuinely have, missing even one commonly required keyword can drop your match score below the recruiter's threshold.

Content calendar planning
Short-form video
Community management
Paid social
Influencer partnerships
Brand voice
Copywriting for social
Analytics and reporting
Crisis response
Platform strategy
Creator briefing

Pro tip: mirror the job description exactly

If the job description says "React.js" and you write "React", some ATS systems won't count it as a match. Copy the exact phrasing, acronyms, capitalization, and all, from the posting into your skills section and bullet points.

Strong social media manager resume bullet examples

Every bullet below follows the same formula: strong action verb + what you did + quantified impact. Study the structure, then replace the numbers with your real achievements. Generic bullets like "responsible for X" are invisible to both ATS and recruiters, specificity is what gets you shortlisted.

Action

Start with Built, Reduced, Migrated, Designed, Optimized, Led.

Tools

Name the exact tool or method: Content calendar planning, Short-form video, Community management, Paid social.

Impact

End with a number: time saved, cost, volume, quality, or people served.

Social Media Manager - Conversion

01

Built a short-form video program that drove 14K tracked site sessions and $210K in attributed revenue a quarter, making organic social the third-largest acquisition channel.

Social Media Manager - Growth with quality

02

Grew Instagram from 22K to 96K followers in fourteen months while raising engagement rate from 1.4% to 3.8%, which mattered more than the follower number to the retail partners who cited it.

Social Media Manager - Creator program

03

Ran a 40-creator partnership program on a $180K budget, delivering a 3.2x return on ad spend on whitelisted content and cutting cost per acquisition below paid search.

Social Media Manager - Crisis response

04

Led social response during a product recall, drafting the holding statement within 90 minutes and managing roughly 2,000 inbound comments with a documented escalation path to legal and support.

Common mistake: weak action verbs

Avoid passive openers like "Responsible for", "Helped with", or "Worked on". These tell the recruiter nothing about your actual contribution. Replace them with ownership verbs: Built, Designed, Led, Reduced, Launched, Architected, Negotiated, Delivered. Then always end with a number.

Social Media Manager resume writing guide

Three areas where most social media manager resumes either win or lose against the competition. Read each section carefully, even one improvement here can meaningfully increase your response rate.

Followers are not the metric

Follower growth is the easiest number to report and the least connected to business outcome, and experienced marketing leaders discount it. Engagement rate, saves and shares, click-through, attributed sessions, revenue and cost per acquisition are what get read.

Where you do use follower growth, pair it with a quality metric. Growing an audience while engagement rate rises is a real achievement; growing it while engagement falls usually means you bought or chased the wrong audience.

Crisis and community work is undervalued on resumes

Handling a recall, an outage or a viral complaint is the part of this job that carries genuine business risk, and it is the part hiring managers worry about when they hire. A candidate who has done it and can describe the process calmly is immediately more valuable.

Describe your process, not the incident's details: response time, escalation path, who you coordinated with, what you did not say. Never reproduce a crisis in specifics that would embarrass a previous employer.

Sections, in order

Contact with links to accounts you have run, summary, experience, skills, education. Link the actual profiles where you can, since this is a role where the work is public and a hiring manager will look regardless.

Leave out: a photo, your date of birth, marital status and your full street address. City and state only.

How to use these numbers

They are national and cross-industry, so your city and sector move them a long way. Use the median as the anchor, name a specific number rather than a range, and justify it with the single most quantified achievement on your resume.

Social Media Manager resume format and structure

ATS systems parse your resume top-to-bottom. The order of your sections and how you label them directly affect your score. Use this structure:

Section 01

Contact Information

Name, professional email, phone, LinkedIn URL, and city/country. No photo, no date of birth, no full address. Keep it to 2 lines maximum.

Section 02

Professional Summary

2-3 sentences. Years of experience as a social media manager, your primary specialty, and your single biggest quantified achievement. No fluff.

Section 03

Work Experience

Reverse-chronological order. Company name, your title, dates (month/year), location. 3–5 bullet points per role, each with a number. Most recent role gets the most bullets.

Section 04

Skills

List Content calendar planning, Short-form video, Community management, Paid social, Influencer partnerships, and other relevant tools. Group by category if you have 10+ skills. This section is scanned first by most ATS.

Section 05

Education

Degree, institution, graduation year. No GPA unless above 3.5 and within 3 years of graduation. Certifications go here or in a separate Certifications section.

Section 06

Optional Sections

Projects (essential for early-career), Certifications, Publications, Open Source, or Languages. Only include if genuinely adding signal.
