What an ATS reads from your resume

When you export from the resume builder, we read the text back out of your PDF and name anything that did not come through. It is our own read-back, not an employer’s system.

A sample resume is exported, read back from its PDF text, and the dates and icons that did not come through are named, then fixed by switching template.

What the video shows

0:12 long, with captions and no sound. Every person and employer in it is invented.

  1. “Export your resume, and we read the PDF back”

A sample resume in a two-column template is exported, and the PDF’s text is read back and compared with what was typed.

  2. “See what came through and what was lost”

The read-back names what was lost: the dates for one role, which sat in the sidebar, and icon characters a parser cannot read.

  3. “Switch template, and check again”

The same resume in a one-column template is checked again, and everything comes through.

About it

What this part of ResumeVera does

The resume checker also gives a free ATS score with no account. It is an AI estimate, not a real ATS test, and says so on the score.

Two-column layouts, text in headers and footers, and icons standing in for words are the usual reasons something goes missing. Because the read-back names the field, the fix is usually a template switch or moving one line, and you can check again straight away.
